thrift shop project

Sooner or later, everything will end up at a thrift store. I'm here to prove it.

09 January 2007

Two things I saw today at the Goodwill in Cambridge.

The green sewing box I passed on due to the singe-y marks on the lid. Very rarely will I buy something not pristine, due to the fact there's simply too much stuff out there. Another sewing box will be out there, someday, when and if I need another one.

I'm still mulling over the pink Detecto baby scale. It is exceptionally beautiful, but what on earth would I do with it? I don't have a baby, probably not having one any time soon, and don't know anyone who would like such a thing. I try not to buy things just for decor, because I don't have the space, but this may get the better of me. It's lovely. Your thoughts?

Could you find a way to use it as a pseudo kitchen scale? If not and you could possibly eek out the space to use it as decor I'd say snap that bad boy up....

I kind of dig that baby scale, but same thing...no kid, not planning on having any. I know a bazillion pregnant people right now though and perhaps someone you know would appreciate that as a truly unique gift.

Those scales are absolutely gorgeous and I am sure you could use it for weighing other things. I would definitely snap it up!

I'd get the scale, and try to find some other use for it...my first thoughts were to hold fruit on a table instead of a bowl, or to use as a cake stand. But I'd absolutely get it - it's lovely.

I agree with everyone else. It's cool. Go back for it.

I've stopped shopping for '07 precisely because I have too much stuff. I often think I am the only one who can give these thrifted items the loving appreciation they deserve.

In order not to get saddled with more stuff, I've had to let go of that idea.

Anyways, it's kind of useless as a baby scale unless you're a doctor or obsessively weighing your infant. They get weighed frequently enough with their regular check ups.

You could use it for very large packages that won't fit on your other scale?

What a find! Go back and use it for a kitchen scale. It sure would look great in my kitchen! :)

Fun finding you. I used to live in Boston and love reading about someone thrifting there.

My in-laws live in Tewksbury and I checked out some of the area stores there in December.

I've got to get myself into beantown though.

Cheers! LA

If I were you I'd buy it and then sell it! Baby scales are very expensive. We ended up taking our babies down the self-serve post office to weigh them on that scale! but now they don't even have that any more. I think you really found something there!
